Lewis Jason Hill Brad Bell Tom Scherrer Paul Gow Tim Herron Notah Begay III Garrett Willis Spike McRoy Bernhard Langer Steve Sear Brad Elder Eddy Lee Brett Massingham rwwwwir 1 Millikin men vs. North Park WHEN: Today, 7:30 p.m. WHERE: North Park Gym, Chicago RECORDS: Millikin is 8-14, 3-8 in CCIW; North Park is 10-11, 5-5 TREND: North Park beat Millikin 91-87 two weeks ago and has won four of the last five games against the Big Blue. OF NOTE: North Park shot 63 percent in the second half of the teams' first meeting to overtake the Big Blue and had five players in double-digit scoring. With Maurice Vaughn (15.3 ppg) off the team, North Park is now led by Jason Collins' 12.5 ppg.

After tonight, Millikin finishes with road games at Elmhurst and Illinois Wesleyan. It needs at least one win to avoid its worst record since it was 8-1 7 in the 1 995-96 season. Millikin would like some consistency with its offense, having averaged 92 points in a pair of early February games only to net just 61 in its loss to Carthage on Wednesday. Illinois State vs. Southern Illinois WHEN: Today, 2:05 p.m.

WHERE: Redbird Arena, Normal RADIO: Redbird Radio Network, including WJBC (1230 AM, Bloomington) RECORDS: Illinois State is 13-12, 9-5 in the Missouri Valley. Southern Illinois is 21-5, 11-3 TREND: Illinois State swept the series a year ago, but the Salukis have already posted a 79-58 victory this year as ISU was forced into 24 turnovers. OF NOTE: Illinois State has won three straight and seven of its last eight. Gregg Alexander is now averaging 9.9 points and leads the team in 3-pointers (47) and in steals (34). Southern Illinois is coming off a 78-71 toss to Southwest Missouri State in a game in which SIU led by 10 in the second half.

SIU leads the Missouri Valley in scoring with 75.9 points per game but actually is getting it done with defense as only two teams have shot at least 45 percent against the Salukis. Eastern Illinois vs. Tennessee-Martin WHEN: Today, 7:10 p.m. WHERE: Lantz Arena, Charleston RADIO: WHQQ (98.9 FM) RECORDS: Eastern Illinois is 14-12, 6-6 in Ohio Valley; Tennessee-Martin is 13-12, 5-8 TREND: Tennessee-Martin won the first meeting, 81-79 in overtime, to take a 7-6 lead in the series. OF NOTE: Eastern is coming off a 77-76 toss to Murray State, which stopped a 23-game home win streak.

It also continued Eastern's skid, which has seen the Panthers lose four of their last five. Yet Eastern finishes with three of its four games against teams below it in the standings, so there is a chance to move into second place in the regular-season standings. At least two wins would assure Eastern of its third straight winning season. Tennessee-Martin has lost seven of its last eight and is coming off a 78-51 loss to last-place Southeast Missouri State. Millikin women vs.

North Central WHEN: Today, 2 p.m. WHERE: Griswold Center RECORDS: Millikin is 16-6, 9-2 in CCIW; North Central is 8-15, 5-7 TREND: Millikin needed all of Kristin Kwasny's 28 points to hold off North Central 60-57 in the first meeting this season. OF NOTE: Millikin kept itself in title contention with its victory at Wheaton on Tuesday. With three games left, the Big Blue are a half game behind Wheaton. The return of the offense was a key in the Tuesday win as Millikin shot 48.9 percent after not hitting 43 percent in any of its previous six games.

Kwasny leads the team, averaging 18.9 points. Maria Sanchez is at 11.4 ppg. A Thursday home game with Illinois Wesleyan is next. North Central started its season 2-10 before coming around late. North Central lost to Wheaton 49-39 last Saturday.

He was tied 9-9 with Aaron Glenn of Bolingbrook late in a 215-pound preliminary-round match when the injury occurred. "The kid took a shot and Jeff turned to miss it," said Mount Zion coach Brett Porter. "His foot got caught in the mat and you could tell he was hurt right away." Mount Zion freshman Brandon Zer-fowski (103) and Mattoon junior Cody Overton (119) were ousted after one match because their victors lost in the next round. Nick Adams, Mount Zion's 189-pound sectional champion, met the same fate after Justin Curran of Chicago Mount Carmel, who defeated Adams, lost his quarterfinal match. Adams moved to a third row seat to watch the fateful match.

"It's a little bit worse to watch when the season is on the line," Adams said. "There's not much you can do." There were several hard-luck losses in Class A quarterfinals. Hillsboro junior Adam Beeler (125) lost 3-2 following a two-point takedown with four seconds left. The score was tied 1-1 until the Princeton's Ryne Bird made his move. XAVIER 7 St.

We gave him a physical, to be honest, just to make sure there are no problems, and there are not. He was just a run-down kid. "But what happens more often than not is, he became fatigued emotionally, which allowed him to become fatigued physically. Your mind can convince your body of a lot of things. Maybe he didn't feel good, but you also add pressure and stress and other things and before you know it the glass is half empty instead of half full." Self suspects Williams was affected by wide-spread criticism of his play, even though he pretended to be unfazed.

"Frank is not going to tell the media or his coach exactly how he is feeling. He is not going to make any alibis. How I coach Frank is between the team and me, and it's not out there for discussion. But I've been pretty tough on Frank. There have been many opportunities for him to make an alibi and not once has he done that.

"There have been times when I have ridden him about not liking to play enough. And then another teammate comes up and tells me, 'Coach, after we play here he goes and plays two hours at the park every night on his "That happened when I first took the job. He'd never tell me that. His thing is, 'You said it (the criticism) so you must feel that way. "When you come under fire it can't help but affect you and hurt you.

Frank would never let you know that. But the reality is, he has spun it into a positive to help motivate him." Williams said he feels refreshed for a sustained end-of-the-season run. "I'm ready now," he said on Thursday. "This is going to be an every-game thing." "You can bet they haven't forgotten it," Orr said of last season's Mini comeback. Seton Hall has been an up-and-down team this season, never winning or losing more than three in a row en route to a 12-12 mark. Most recently, the Pirates lost 63-61 to Notre Dame, lost 70-65 at Pittsburgh, won 85-79 at West Virginia and lost 84-77 at home to Georgetown. Seton Hall is a bombs-away 3-point shooting team, although in the loss to Georgetown it was center Charles Manga who led the way with 23 points. Mini coach Bill Self tried to recruit Manga when he was head coach at Tulsa.

Lane who is not bashful about shooting from 25 feet on in has already snapped off 167 3-pointers. And Barrett, the small but lightning quick point guard, has stepped up to lead the team in scoring with an average of 16.3 points. "If we can't keep him in front of us he will give us a lot of problems," Self said. "But if we can, may be size will be something that can help us. "They had their way with us last year for the first 20 minutes.

We couldn't guard them at all." Illinois is coming off a 63-61 victory at Michigan State, the team's third win in a row. Williams played his most energized and animated game in a long while, and Self said his point guard appears to be physically and mentally rejuvenated. "We all go through phases where we don't feel so well and have as much energy," Self said, "Frank has told us I feBB I Failed to qualify Nissan Open Friday At Riviera Country Club Los Angeles, Calif.
